If you’re anything like us, then you’re looking forward to spending time in person with the people you love this holiday season. After two years of connecting remotely, it’s such a gift to be able to sit at a table to enjoy a meal together. One of the perks of owning a New York home is that you may have the extra room needed to host your loved ones this year for Thanksgiving. While hosting Thanksgiving dinner can be stressful, there are ways that you can make it easier on yourself. Here are some of our favorite hacks for hosting Thanksgiving in your New York home. Happy Thanksgiving!

Chop your veggies in advance

One of the most time-consuming parts of making Thanksgiving dinner is the prep that’s involved. It takes time to chop up all those vegetables. Fortunately, this is something that can be done a day or two ahead of time. Simply chop your veggies as needed and store them in the fridge until you’re ready to assemble your dishes. If you’re short on time, then there’s no shame in buying chopped veggies at your local market. The time you’ll save can certainly outweigh the little bit of extra money you might spend.

Embrace the power of the cooler

There’s never enough room in the refrigerator for all that Thanksgiving food. No matter how well you plan and how much you clean out the fridge before the big day, there will always be things that just won’t fit in there. Give yourself the extra room you need by filling a cooler with ice and storing things in it you won’t need for Thanksgiving, like condiments and pickles. Or line it with aluminum foil and use it to keep dishes warm while you’re putting the finishing touches on the meal. You can even use your cooler to brine your turkey before you cook it!

Bust out your slow cooker

Slow cookers are the workhorses of the modern-day kitchen. And they sure come in handy when you’re preparing Thanksgiving dinner. More than likely, every burner on your stove will be in use. So bust out your slow cooker and use it for making mashed potatoes. It will keep your potatoes warm and ready for serving for hours.

Use your Thermos, too

An insulated cup isn’t just good for keeping your morning coffee warm as you jet out the door. You can also use it to keep your gravy warm on Thanksgiving. Once the gravy is ready, pour it into a Thermos or other insulated cup to keep it hot. When you’re ready to serve dinner, pour it into a gravy boat.

Don’t forget your kitchen cabinets

Finally, you’re going to be looking at many different recipes when you’re making your meal. Save counter space and keep yourself organized by printing out and taping all your recipes to your kitchen cabinet doors. This keeps them all at eye level and helps to keep you from accidentally spilling the gravy on your tablet as you frantically search how many cups of fried onions go in the green bean casserole.
